Day 4: The Sea can be pretty mean at times

We woke up on Tuesday morning with both of us not feeling to hot. The ship was rocking back and forth and side to side. It was not fun. It was hard to even walk around. We figured that this couldn't be this bad all the time, so we went on a journey to find out if this was normal. We found out that basically - it was pretty normal. The morning was pretty bad and we tried going to a lower floor to see if it got any better and - it didn't. We basically both said that we may not be "cruisers" if this was a typical cruise. On our way back up from the lower decks, we were walking through the hallway and Ed from BNL said "hey" to Mom and I - (I wasn't even paying attention and didn't realize who it was until it was too late!) Unfortunately we didn't have our camera on us, but I'm sure that Ed appreciated us just saying hi back to him and not asking him for an autograph or a picture.

At about 4pm the seas started to slow down and we started to feel a bit better, just in time for a quick Bingo game. The rest of the evening was fine and we actually got some sleep Tuesday night.

Day 3: Heading to the Port

We woke up this morning to a beatiful sunrise on Daytona Beach (seen above!) We headed out from the Hilton around 9am down 95S to Ft. Lauderdale. Getting into Port Everglades was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. Mom loved going over the bridge on I295, here's a photo she took, while trying to keep her mind off the fact that we were driving over nothing but water. We arrived in Port at 1:15pm, which was when Carnival was supposed to start boarding the ship - but it was very delayed and we didn't end up getting on the ship until almost 4pm, which was supposed to be the sailing time! The delay was worth it though - the Barenaked Ladies were stopping each cabin as they boarded to greet them and take a full band picture with them!! I'll upload that one once I've scanned it.
When I booked the cruise back in April 2006 I figured that getting a stateroom higher up on the ship would be better than one lower, due to overall motion and engine noise (at least that was what I was lead to believe) so we were in cabin 8121 on the Promenade Deck.
Our stateroom was very, very small, but it did have a very nice balcony that looked fit both of us very comfortably and gave us some great views of the port as we were heading out to sea. The first night was spent exploring some of the decks and finding out where things were, we did manage to find the casino and even came out ahead for the evening. Although there were events on the ship, the drive and the long wait in line to board the ship took most of our energy, so we called it a night pretty early.

Day 2: Hello from Daytona Beach!

Is that ocean I smell?

Sure is.......we left Tennessee around 8am....and by 9:13 we entered the state of Georgia...that is a very big state...it took us till 3:15pm to reach the Florida state line...that was also stopping for lunch we ate at a place called Fuddruckers,no kidding now say that three times fast lol......but they do have the best homemade burgers ever.......so that was about 45mins.....then we got a room at the Daytona Hilton....with ocean view....we checked in at 6:30pm......it is a sight to be seen...the ocean and the waves rolling in.....so tomorrow we leave here at 8am to head to Ft lauderdale.....it is a 3hr drive....so we can't arrive before noon at the cruise terminal....and thats just to park the van...they won't allow people to start going through secruity till 1pm and between 1 and 3pm is when they are allowing people to board the ship....then we will set sail at 4pm....well it's 10pm time to get some shut eye....if we get internet on the ship we'll post a hello.... bye for now...Love Mary and Jason

The Voyage!

Mom and I are embarking on our first cruise from January 15th, through 19th on the Carnival Legend. The catch? We'll be on the boat with The Barenaked Ladies, the Canadian supergroup!

We'll be posting our travels and pictures as we drive down to Ft. Lauderdale from Windsor and then come back with a stop off at a famous Memphis location.

Cheers!
